INTERVIEW and AUDIO

Alice Walker's admiration for the work of Carl Jung led her to incorporate Jung as a character in her novel Possessing the Secret of Joy, 1992, the story of a tribal African woman, Tashi, who elects to be genitally mutilated in order to be accepted as authentic by her people. Her decision leads eventually to her complete mental collapse.
In this talk, introduced by Jungian analyst Dr. Jean Shinoda Bolen,M.D., Alice explores the connections between the widespread suffering afflicting humanity and the availability of help, sometimes from unlikely or unconsidered sources.
